Sample Programs in Athletics

Griffin Educational Consulting can provide a variety of programming options directed to different constituents in athletics. All sessions focus on specific strategies to create and maintain a respectful and productive climate enabling diverse athletes reach their academic and athletic goals.

Athletic Administrators: 1-2 hour consultation focused on athletic department climate assessment for diverse coaches and athletes and policy and program development to meet legal and ethical expectations for anti-harassment and non-discrimination in diverse athletic departments.

Coaches and other Athletic Staff: 2-3 hour interactive session focused on practical problem identification and proactive policy development designed to address team issues related to preventing discrimination or harassment and coaching diverse teams effectively

Student-Athlete Leaders (Team Captains and SAAC Members): 1-2 hour interactive session focused on the role of student-athlete leaders in establishing a positive team climate in which diverse members are respected and non-discrimination and anti-harassment policies and procedures are understood.

Individual Athletic Teams: 1-2 hour sessions focused on discussing specific diversity issues affecting team unity and performance with the goal of encouraging understanding, respectful communication, and greater cohesion among all team members.

Parents of Student-Athletes: 1-2 hour session focused on understanding department policies and expectations for participation on diverse athletic teams and identifying ways parents can assist coaches in creating a respectful and positive athletic experience for diverse athletes.

Open Campus: 1-1 ½ hour presentation for the broad campus community on social justice issues in athletics. The presentation focuses on identifying specific issues in athletics and their relationship to homophobia/heterosexism, gender oppression, sexism, and racism in the larger culture.
